I am copying both of these songs from friends' blogs, but love them so much that I wanted to share with you as well. Hope everyone is enjoying their Friday and Easter weekend. We have so many things to be thankful for, but most importantly the Gift of Jesus and his Saving Grace.
The Old Rugged Cross
"On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross, the emblem of suffering and shame; And I love that old cross where the dearest and best For a world of lost sinners was slain; So I'll cherish the old rugged cross, Till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross, And exchange it some day for a crown"
"In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine, A wondrous beauty I see, For twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died, To pardon and sanctify me; So I'll cherish the old rugged cross, Till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross, And exchange it some day for a crown"
We sang this song tonight at our church tenebrae service. Such an amazing song..hearing the congregation sing it tonight and just taking in the words sent a chill up my spine.
How Deep the Father's Love for Us
"How deep the Father's love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
And make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory"
"Behold the man upon his cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished "
"I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom"
"Why should I gain from His reward
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom"
